Altay, city with the luxury of a hotel!
After a good night’s sleep in our winter camp, Dirk crawls under the hood of the LandRover. That also needs his attention. The air filter is full of sand and that needs to be knocked out. The T-Ford is also ready for the next stage.
We climb up the mountain. From 1950 meters to 2650 meters over a distance of 8 kilometers.
The Ford can climb very well, but the extra fin for cooling no longer works.
The wires for the power are weathered and dried out (I don’t think this is just the case with the power wires). The motor of the fin runs heavily and it receives a few good targeted blows with the hammer. Dirk sawed off a piece of the fin and now it fits again. Nico connects the wires. Everything is assembled and we go back to the mountains. We leave the side walls of the hood off, that is a bit cooler for the engine of the T-Ford.
We decide to buy coolant. We put that on our shopping list but don’t come across a shop or garage. Few livestock and nomads along these mountain roads.
We stop at a monument to take a look and as we drive away the left front wheel chatters. Scared, is the steering rod broken again? I jump out of the T-Ford to take a look, but the steering rod is still intact. Happy. But what’s going on? Dirk immediately sees that the small kingpin has been removed. We will look to see if they can find it, but we were unable to do so. Dirk gets another kingpin from the warehouse and a little later we leave again.
After a few kilometers we reach the main road. Asphalt leads us to Altai.
We dream of a hotel with a hot water shower, Wi-Fi for the website, restaurant and a room that can be locked.
We find a hotel, but all those facilities are not easy to see.
We showered anyway and the WiFi worked later in the evening.
Altai is the highest city in Mongolia and is located at 2650 meters.
