Back and forth in Sari-Tash.
We have permits dated June 11, so we decide to stay in Sari-Tash this day. So we have time to pay extra attention to the T-Ford and prepare everything for the next part of our adventure on the Pamir Highway. The tanks also had to be filled. Filling up with petrol was no problem, but we didn’t get diesel at the pump. When I asked at a restaurant, a man immediately jumped up, left his hot meal and gestured for me to come with him. A little further away in a rickety shed there were jerry cans filled with diesel. He mentioned his price and Ger and I discussed what we would do. This diesel or no diesel? The choice was not difficult. We have to move on. We bought the contents of 2 jerry cans and it filled our tank.
Back at our guesthouse, the owner was at our Model T with his children.
On this day we finally had time for the official moment with our new team. Ger and Wim. The stickers had been in the roof tent for weeks and still looked nice and flat.
Together they placed the sticker on the Land-Rover and then Dirk handed over the keys to Ger and Wim. They are already familiar with the Land-Rover because they have already driven more than 1000 kilometres.
We left at 9 am to get some time today. First to the border. We drove towards the snow mountains and almost drove in the snow. It was a new experience for us, driving so high in the snow. A wonderful experience.
We had already driven 55 kilometres when we came to a post. We had taken the wrong road. That was a shame, now we had to go back.
In Sara-Tash we now took the right one!! away.
We drive towards the snow again and along a beautiful riverbed.
We arrive at the border fence.
The power is out so we must wait. The officer already takes our passports and permits. When he comes back later it turns out that we don’t have enough permits yet. We must go back to Sari-Tash to sort that out.
We’re going back again. We saw yaks and we thought a cyclist was coming, but it was a man on a donkey.
We apply for permits in the city and have to wait another day.
Thus ended our back-and-forth day.
