The End of the Model T Worldtour 2013

Today is the end of our travel adventure of this year through the USA and Canada.

An adventure that started in Houston-TX. May 14th

We traveled in 182 days through 24 states of the US. and 4 provinces of Canada.
A total distance of more than 17.000 miles with only 1 flat tire and a broken alternator.

We are very proud of our almost 100 year old Model T.

After 17.000 miles

Yesterday we departed from the airport of Houston and this morning we arrived at Schiphol, the airport of Amsterdam.

We thank everybody very must for following our tour on our website and we hope you have enjoyed our stories.
We say a special word of thanks to all the people who we have met and who has helped us in one way or another to make this tour a real fantastic part of our world tour.
The beginning of next year, 2014, we will continue our world tour through Central- and South America.

Fare well Party in Houston

Today is a special day.
The Space City Model T Club in Houston has because of our coming back and fare well, organised a BBQ.
Our hostess and host are Pat and Bill Sherrill, members of this Model T Club.

We have a special relation with this Model T Club, because the start of our trip in May of this year was also organised by this club.
In May we had a ice-cream party.

A lot of members came to the BBQ and Dirk gave a presentation about our tour through the USA and Canada.

After that the delicious BBQ started.

During the old-timer event last October in Hershey, Dirk and Trudy has met Dennis Gorder, the president of the American Model T Club.
Dirk has told to Dennis that he tried to collect a licence plate of every State they traveled through. And he still was missing some plates.
Dennis arranged that there was in Houston a box with plates that Dirk was missing.

He also put a plate in the box from 1915 of Wisconsin, because Dirk’s Model T is from 1915.

Dennis also send a winter cap of the Model T Snowmobile Club.
Very useful for Dirk when he is ice skating in Holland.

Dirk and Trudy also had some presents for there hostess and host.
Pat got a shirt with the logo of the Model T Worldtour.
Fortunately she likes the color blue very much.

A size of a shirt for Bill was not in Trudy’s store, so Dirk gave him a typical Dutch red handkerchief. Trudy promised Bill it was a clean one.

After the very nice BBQ there was ice and cake. Not a regular cake, but one special made for this event.

At the end of the party we say good-bye with Bill and Pat in front of the Model T.

The reception in May and this fare well party in November in Houston affected us very much.
It is so special to be so far from home and to be welcomed so nice and friendly by people with the same passion; the Model T.

We say good bye to Ben and Nancy. It was nice to be back  in Bryan and to meet our friends again.

We continue our tour to Houston to meet Bill and Pat Sherrill again. We started our tour in North America last May at their house.
It’s warm and it rains a lot this day and Trudy makes a picture of the special Texas long horn cows.

It is almost dark when we arrive at Bill and Pat’s house. We can park the Model T and the Land Rover in the car port and can stay for the next 4 days in their motor home.

November 22th.
Today we go with Bill to the broker’s office to arrange the shipping of the cars back to Holland.

Next Monday November 25^th. we have to deliver the cars at the border and when the paper work for the shipping is arranged we go back home and on we see the sky scrapers of Houston standing in the clouds.

We bring a visit to the shop of Texas T-Parts to pick up some parts for Dirk.

There is also a beautiful Model TT as a break down lorry.

We leave to visit Jennifer Lilleker to see the new baby of Jennifer and Ross.
Ross is making a trip in a Model A in Argentina, but Jennifer and their new daughter Courtney Ann are at home.

In their garden is a wooden Model T. A nice car for our grandsons.

Dirk makes a phone call with Ross and Ross gave Dirk several advises about travelling through Argentina.

On the way to Bryan, we met some guys making a holiday trip on their Harley’s.
Dirk talked with one of them about their and our tour.

We have a beautiful tour through Texas but sometimes the Model drives to fast for the Land Rover to keep an eye on it.

We have a lot of fun driving through Texas; special during our coffee stops.

In the afternoon we reach the house of Nancy and Ben Hardeman in Bryan and we were warmly welcomed by Nancy with home made cookies with chocolate kisses on the top.

Here daughter Tricia came along to say good-bye and to see the Model T after 17.000 miles.

In the evening Ernie and Ginger visited us to talk about our travel stories and to see the Model T that’s parked in Ben’s Model T Hotel.

November 16th.
After a fantastic visit to Graceland, we continue our tour.

Via the Highway we cross the bridge over the Mississippi and enter Arkansas.

The tour leads us along cotton fields. Most of the cotton is gathered already but some fields they still have to do.
It’s raining a little bit today but it not cold anymore.

November 17th.
During the night-time there was a lot of rain but we stayed in a motel, so the cars are wet but we are dry.
We continue our tour through a watery area with big trees in the middle of the water.

During a coffee stop near Warren we meet Anthony Hearnsberger.  He has never seen a Model T on the road and he arranged an interview with the local news paper in Warren.

Today was a very hot day and Dirk mounted the extra fan in front of the radiator so we could make a total of 180 miles today.

November 18th.
Today we entered Texas. Texas was the first state where we started our tour for 2013 in North America in May and is also the last state of our tour in 2013.

Today we go to visit Graceland!
First we have a real Elvis breakfast.

Trudy cannot wait to go inside; se is from here age of 13 a big fan of Elvis so today is a special day for her.

It is a fabulous house. Inside is it just like it was in the time Elvis lived here with his family.
There were inside and outside a lot of expositions about his live, movies of his concert and walls full with golden records and rewards.
In the meditation garden there is Elvis his grave between the graves of his mother, father and grandmother.
He also has two airplanes, now standing in the garden as an exposition for visitors.
In an souvenir shop Dirk looked for a new outfit to wear in the Model T.

In the restaurant there was a collection of license plates, just like we have at the backside of the Land Rover.

Of course Trudy  wants to listen to her most favorite love songs of Elvis.

At the end of the day we looked to movie of his concert at Hawaii.
It was a very special day for Trudy and one of her highlights of this part of the tour through the States.
