Sheki (Azerbaijan) – Lagodeki (Georgia)
By Arnaud and Roos
Today we will cross the border with Georgia, where Trudy and Dirk have already arrived and have a hotel in the border town of Lagodeki .
We decide to make the most of our last hours in Azerbaijan and travel by taxi instead of local public transport. We take a taxi to Sheki Khan ‘s palace . It is a beautiful colorful building located at the foot of the Caucasus. In front of it are two old plane trees from around 1530!!! The windows are beautiful, made of wood-laid glass. How nice that we still saw this.
There are still many Ladas driving around here, which gives you the feeling that you are traveling into the past. We travel further with our slightly more chic Mercedes taxi to the north towards the border. It is beautifully green in this region. Cows are not in the meadow here, but walk along or on the road. The roads are fine and our driver drives fast, but fortunately not recklessly. Around half past two we reach the border where we are dropped off and continue walking.
Fortunately, the border crossing goes smoothly. It’s always exciting to see what kind of mood the officials are in… But when traveling with children, most people are very friendly! We are in Georgia!! We will soon see Trudy and Dirk again after 4 months.
We drive to the hotel with a toothless taxi driver, and they are already outside. What a wonderful meeting!!! A drink, a game, good food and a nice chat!
