Report 19 August
Report by Steef en Greetje.
Our camping site is so nice, but the night is freezing cold, minus 15 to 20 C.
Dirk and Trudy are sleeping on top of the Landrover, Greetje and Steef in the tent.
Greetje is sick because of the altitude so Trudy gives here the necessary pills.
Next morning, everything is frozen, even a bottle of red wine in the tent.
But soon the sun rises behind the distant hills to warm up the camping site.
We’re having a cold breakfast and off we go again through this open empty landscape.
Now and then lama’s are crossing our path and more than once we have to cross small rivers.
Steef also starts to feel the altitude but happily we are getting lower and lower.
On a point where we have to cross a river again, a car is stuck in the mud.
Dirk tries to pull him out but without success.
18.8 miles before Uyuni we’re having a tyre-burst on the right, pieces of rubber are flying along the window, but Dirk keeps the car steady on the road.
The tire is change and in Uyuni we can fill the tank again with diesel.
Later we find a hotel for this night.
We went down in altitude quite some so hopefully Greetje is getting better now.
