We landed in Beijing around 9:15 am. We had a good trip. There was a lot of hassle going through customs. First I had to take fingerprints and then it was not necessary again. For Nico and Marijke, yes. Must have something to do with age. Of course we took a photo at customs, and around half past 11 we were at the conveyor belt for our suitcases. It turned out that the tire was already completely empty. Where are our suitcases? They were waiting for us in a corner of a large hall. Good thing, too.
Our guides Paul and Tony were waiting for us outside. Put everything in one taxi and go to the hotel. First a short briefing with Paul and Tony about the plans for the coming days.
Paul has been in contact with customs. It turned out that the shipper sent the papers to the wrong customs office.
Obtaining a Chinese driver’s license still appears to be a vague story. It turns out it can only be done in Chinese; They don’t seem to have an English translation.
Customs wants to remove the cars from the container without me being there. I absolutely want to be there, so the guide will try to arrange that.
Customs will be closed today and tomorrow due to a Chinese festival. It is agreed that we will go to the port on Monday. Let’s see how that all turns out.
In the evening we had a delicious meal in a hot-spot restaurant. It’s nice and fun to play around with the four of us with the chopsticks and the special snacks.
I went to bed at half past eight and, according to Trudy, I left in no time.
Tomorrow the ladies leave for Mongolia.
