Friday 16 November
Today we go to the new tires, Kevin Casey has them, he lives nearby Harrismith. About 190km driving.
During a tankstop we are stopped by Theresa, she works for the local newspaper and wants to write about our trip.
During a brake we see a lot of schoolchildren, they probably have a brake too.
At the Ford garage in Harrismith we take a cup of coffee and call Kevin.
After the coffee Kevin shows up, with 3 very big dogs in his ‘bakkie’.
First the model T gets a serious check.
After this we follow Kevin to his house.
He lives 30km away from here, it’s more than 25km offroad.
Bad road but very nice views!!
Around 5 o clock we arrive at his farm
After a cup of tea Sandy shows us where we can sleep tonight, what a hospitality!
Kevin shows us his cars. Really amazing, in the middle of nowhere this kind of collection.
He has a lot of wonderful cars.
Kevin takes 2 tires of the model T 1914, and one tire of a 1915 model of a friend of him, who is no in Switzerland.
We can put the T on the car lever, that is easy to work.
Kevin has a nice trick to replace the tyres when the wheels do not have to be removed from the car. This saves some time!
When we arrive in Cape Town, we put our old tires back on. And give this tyres to a friend of Kevin, during Christmas they will meet again.
That looks healthy!
We make a bigger hole in the tankdop, so it can loose the air better.
Sandy cooks a lovely diner, after dinner we view the map for the best route to take.
Today we drove 186km
Tomorrow we go in the direction of the coast.
