Report 6th of November

Today we drive from Tacuarembó (Uruguay) to Quarai (Brazil), via the border at Rivera.
In the morning we check Eduardo’s T-Fords for the last time and say goodbye.

At the coffee break Robert officially gets the keys to the Land Rover. Unfortunately he doesn’t fit behind the steering wheel, so he’ll has to do with navigating and translating Spanish…

We want to cross the border at Rivera, the ‘border of peace’ according to the signs. Nice to have peace, but is doesn’t seem to make the crossing any easier. All goes well on the Uruguayan side. We find customs which are in the middle of town. The officer gives us directions to find the Brazilian side of the border. Go up 3 blocks, right 2 blocks and then up 23 blocks. We count the blocks, but see no Brazilian customs. After asking around we find it, but it turns out they can only stamp our passport, but not do the paperwork for the cars.

They send us back into town, to another office, where we find the real border which runs through the middle of a square.

At the office they don’t know what to do with the cars, so they send us to the ‘dry harbour’, which should be easy to find. We get directions and an address, but can’t find the office. We ask around, drive in the wrong direction, ask around again, get a new map and finally manage to find the ‘dry harbour’. Where it turns out we don’t need any papers to take the cars into Brazil…
07 Instructions to get to customs
Due to the delay at the border we don’t reach our intended destination and spend the night at Quarai. As soon as we arrive at the hotel, people are flocking around the T-Ford. Own of the people lives across the street from the hotel and invites us for a barbeque. The barbeque is great and we drink, dance and party till the early hours.
